French seed industry

Our ambition for the French seed industry

Today, we wanted to take you behind the scenes of our sourcing of French mustard seeds.

At Pommery®, as a small independent family business with fewer than 10 employees, we have always been committed to favouring local and French sourcing whenever possible. Our cork stoppers come from a company based in the Landes region and certified EPV (Living Heritage Company). The capsules used for our small 100 g stoneware jars are made by a small plastics manufacturer located in Meaux, less than 10 kilometres from our mustard mill.

As for the mustard seeds, we have spent nearly ten years carrying out trials in order to build an independent supply chain. Despite the many technical, weather-related, regulatory and logistical challenges, we have now succeeded, over the past two years, in establishing this supply chain for the long term.

To support this ambition, we have invested in additional storage silos, state-of-the-art seed conveyors and, alongside our mechanical seed cleaner, we acquired an optical sorter two years ago. This equipment allows us to reach a very high level of precision in seed sorting, ensuring an impeccable raw material for the production of our mustards.

We work hand in hand with our partner farmers, supporting them as effectively as possible through our expertise, with the aim of optimising and sustaining this supply chain. Because before being a marketing argument on a label, it is above all a story of passionate men and women, shaped by learning, dedication and success.

In this spirit, and with great humility, we would also like to acknowledge our fellow mustard makers who have likewise built their own French mustard seed supply chains.

We invite you to discover, through video, the behind-the-scenes story of a day spent alongside one of our partner farmers, from loading to unloading.
