Description

Moutarde de Meaux® Pommery® is an old-style wholegrain mustard, flavourful, lightly spiced and full of character. A true icon of French fine food, its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when the Canons made it at the foot of Meaux Cathedral, before it officially took its place at the royal tables in 1632.

Exclusively produced near Meaux by the Chamois family, from father to son, it continues a historic recipe made with carefully selected mustard seeds, vinegar, salt and spices. Its emblematic stoneware jar naturally protects its flavour qualities and contributes to its unique preservation.

Perfect with cold meats, roast poultry, old-style vinaigrettes, croque-monsieur or crushed potatoes, Moutarde de Meaux® Pommery® can be enjoyed both cold and warm, bringing character to everyday recipes as well as gastronomic tables.

Winner of the World’s Best Mustard award in 2019 at the World-Wide Mustard Competition, Whole Grain category.

Questions fréquentes

Why is Moutarde de Meaux® Pommery® presented in a stoneware jar?

Stoneware naturally protects the contents from light and temperature variation. Together with the natural cork and wax seal, it forms Pommery®’s traditional packaging principle and contributes to preserving the mustard.

How do I open the 500g wax-sealed Moutarde de Meaux® Pommery®?

Gently break the wax around the edge using the back of a knife. Then slide the tip lightly between the cork and stoneware, work around the rim and brush away remaining wax before removing the cork.

What is the historical origin of Moutarde de Meaux® Pommery®?

The tradition goes back to the canons of Meaux. Moutarde de Meaux® appeared at royal tables from 1632, before its manufacturing secret passed to J.B. Pommery in the eighteenth century and was carried forward through later generations.

Is Moutarde de Meaux® Pommery® milder than Dijon mustard?

Yes, its expression is generally rounder and more subtle. Whole seeds release pungency progressively, whereas fine Dijon mustard gives a sharper, more immediate attack. The two styles therefore suit different tastes and culinary uses.
